WELLINGTON, January 1. Maquana led all the way to win the Wairarapa Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening day of the Wairarapa Racing Club's summer meeting at Tauherenikau. The second leg. the Wardell Handicap, fell to Conkers King, which scored easily. The combination paid £391 8s 6d for £l.
The weather was fine and warm, and . there was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £88,148 on tlie course, compared with £93,234 last year. • N. E. Eastwood, rider of Sarcelle in the Wairarapa Cup, was found guilty of interference to Recluse inside the final furlong, and he was suspended from 6 p.m. today, up to and Including, January 16.
