Softball BEATTY CUP TOURNEY
Waikato And Auckland In Final (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 1. In the semi-finals of the Beatty Cup today the Waikato softball representatives beat Wellington by 5 runs to 4. and Auckland beat Hutt Valley. 6-1 Waikato will now meet Auckland m the final to be played tomorrow afternoon. Hutt Valley and Wellington will play the curtain raiser for the North v South game on Saturday Fixtures on New Year’s Eve which lead to the semi-finals, caused several upsets, and a special play-off between Waikato and Hutt Valley was staged. Waikato, which was leading with Wellington, «ost to Canterbury 6-1, and Wellington stayed at the lead with Waikato, Auckland and Hutt Valley equal in second place. Yesterday’s matches resulted: Hutt Valley 11, Southland 2; Canterbury 6 Waikato 1; Rotorua 8. Manawatu 6; Hawke’s Bay 12, Wanganui 12; Wellington 10, Otago 5; Wairaraba lost to Auckland by default. The following are the results of the knock-out tournament for the Secondary Plate tournament which was played m two sections. Yesterday's games: Rotorua 17. Manawatu 7; Canterbury 3; Wanganui 0: Southland 16, Otago 15.. Today's games: Canterbury 10. Otago 5: Wanganui 8. Southland 2; Rotorua 9, Wairarapa 6; Canterbury 3, Southland 2; Manawatu 7, Wairarapa 3:
