NEW AERODROME SCHEME

“C.A.A. Dragging Its Feet” "The Press' Special Service ROTORUA, Dec. 21. The Civil Aviation Administration appeared to be “dragging its feet” over the Rotorua aerodrome scheme, the Mayor of Rotorua (Mr A. M. Linton) told the Rotorua Borough Council. He was commenting on a letter from the Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr Mathison) who stated that he understood the council would not apply to have the construction of a new airport at Rotokawa declared a work of local and national importance.

The difficulty involved in raiding finance for the scheme indicated that it would be necessary to do this, said Mr Linton. The Civil Aviation Administration had asked the engineers of Rotorua Borough and the Rotorua County to prepare a plan for the proposed aerodrome. “I cannot see that they jye the best men to do a job that must eventually meet the requirements of the administration,” said the Mayor. Any plan submitted by the engineers would probably be returned as unsatisfactory, he said, and it might, well be another year before anything further was done.
