Obituary MR T. R. HAMPTON

After a long illness, Mr Trevor Richard Hampton died at Christchurch on Thursday. For the last four years, Mr Hampton was a police constable stationed at Ashburton, and was 39 years of age .at the time of his death. Mr Hampton joined the police force in March, 1954, and after training in Christchurch, was transferred to Ashburton—his home town. During the Second World War, he served with the 6th R.M.T., 2nd N.Z.E.F. Mr Hampton was the eldest son of the late Richard and Margaret Hampton, of Elgin, Ashburton, and is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.

MR R. CROMPTON

A former well-known Queen’s Counsel in Fiji, Mr Robert Crompton, C.8.E., died yesterday, aged 89. He had been living in retirement at New Brighton. Mr Crompton practised as a solicitor in England and went to Fiji in 1904, and in 1918 he was awarded the C.B.E. for his services in raising contingents during the war. In 1924 he was made a King’s Counsel and at one time he was a member oi the Executive Council.

The son of Mr R. Crompton of Bolton, Lancashire, he was born in Raotova, Russia, and educated at the Blue Coat School. Warrington. Mr Crompton is survived by his wife, and three children of a former marriage.
