Vice-Regal (Itaw Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. TbU morning the GovernorGeneral (Viscount Cobham) preat a meeting of the Executive Council. In the evening, their Excellencies held a dinner party, followed by a reception, in honour of the Prime Minister of Canada (Mr J. G. Diefenbaker) and Mrs Dlefenbaker. Mr ■E. C. Bathurst, a former Mayor of Ashburton, and Ashburton county representative on the Lyttelton Harbour Board, who is now living at Levin, is a patient in the Palmerston North Public Hospital. He is reported to be recovering well from an operation. Dr. D McK. Dickson, president of the North Canterb> ry Acclimatisation Society, will represent the society on the council of South Island Acclimatisation Societies. Inspector J. C. Fletcher has been promoted to the rank of chief inspector. Mr E. W. Hullet, director of the Wheat Research Institute, Christchurch. has been elected vicepresident of the Institute of Chemistry.
