Points Awards For Championship

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, December 8. The 1959 drivers’ and manufacturers’ world championships will be decided on the five best performances—as against six for this year’s event. This was decided today by the International Automobile Federation. The federation also amended the championship points scoring system. Next year the points awarded will be 8,6, 4,3, and 2 for first, second, third, fourth and fifth places, with one for 1 the fastest lap. The single point awarded this year for sixth place is dropped. To encourage new racing drivers, the federation decided to form a junior championship. Entries will have to comply with full list of qualifications, the main one of which is that the maximum engine capacity should be 110 cc.
