Drivers From Overseas The names of the overseas racing drivers who will compete in the Lady Wigram International Trophy race on January 24 will not be announced by the Motor Racing Club until after the New Zealand Grand Prix at Ardmore on January 10. The club has received advice from five overseas drivers that they are interested in competing at Wigram. They are Ron Flockhart (8.R.M.), Carroll Shelby (Maserati), Harry Schell (Maserati), Joakim Bonnier (Maserati), and J. Brabham (Cooper-Climax). The secretary of the Motor Racing Club (Mr J. A. Brewer) said yesterday that in conjunction with the Southland Sports Car Club, his committee Would select the overseas drivers paid to compete at Christchurch and Invercargill. By waiting until the Ardmore race was concluded, he said, it would be possible to select overseas drivers whose cars were still in good condition and who would make the two South Island events most, interesting. Mr Brewer considers it most likely that the drivers signed up for Wigram would come from Flockhart, Shelby, Schell, Bonnier, and Brabham. However, he does not discount the possibility of other overseas men such as Masten Gregory (Maserati) making the trip. The number of overseas drivers seen at Wigram depends largely upon the sum demanded by each for appearance money. Among other drivers who will compete at Wigram is Bruce McLaren (Cooper-Climax), the young Auckland driver who was placed second in the world Formula II championship this year. K. D. Harris (Monza Ferrari) is another, and F. Losse, an American studying at the Otago School of Dentistry; will drive a Sebring Austin-Healey.
