Golf POWER CHARGES FOR CLUBS
Change In Rate To Be Sought
Figures comparing electricity charges under the current and old prices, were received from four golf clubs in the Christchurch area at the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association’s management committee on Monday. In one case a comparison showed the charges had more than trebled for the same period under the present electricity rates. The • committee is at present gathering evidence which would support a case it will make to the Christchurch City Council Municipal Electricity Department for clubs to be taken off the commercial rate and charged at domestic rates. The Russley club advised that in September, 1957, it was charged £l5 19s lid and in October this year, for a similar period, the charge was £5l 5s 3d. The Avondale club paid £27 3s 5d in October last year but for the same period this year, at October, the charge was £55 6s 2d. The Christchurch club’s letter also showed an increase of more than double the charges for last year. If possible the committee will wait on the department before Christmas. Association fixtures for 1959 were arranged as follows: — Stroke championships, March 21 and 22, Templeton on March 21 and another club for March 22; foursomes. May 3 and 4, Avondale; Canterbury championships, October 24, 25, 26, Russley; Canterbury v. Wellington, November 21, Waitikiri; Canterbury v. Otago, April 4 and 5, Ashburton to be approached; mid-week tournaments, Russley (May), Avonaale (September 9), Waitikiri (October 14).
