Commemoration Day.—The annual Commemoration Day of St. Mary’s Old Girls' Association was held last Sunday at St. Mary’s College, Colombo street The general meeting during the afternoon was well attended. Officers elected for the next two years’ period were: president, Mrs M. Husband; vice-presidents, Mesdames M. Adamson and K. Davey; secretary. Mrs M. Adamson; assistant secretary, Mrs A. Kirk; treasurer, Mrs P. Wenmouth; assistant treasurer, Mrs K. Davey; committee, Mesdames D. Skedden, H. Bennington, S. Alexander, M. Ryan, Misses E. Craig, F. Nolan, and P. Nolan.

Moat Impressed.—The women of Russia made a deep impression on Mrs M. Thompson, of Gore, who was a member of the New Zealand party of six women invited by the Soviet Women’s Committee to visit Russia recently. In an address to the Timaru branch of the National Council of Women, Mrs Thompson described the women as efficient, natural, and unassuming. Sixty per cent, of the doctors in Russia were women, she said, and they were well Informed on New Zealand. Mrs Thompson was impressed by the cleanliness of the Russian cities.

Resignation.—The resignation of Mrs O. M. Turbott, assistant ethnologist, has been accepted with regret by the Canterbury Museum Trust Board. Appreciation of her services has been recorded, especially her contribution to the success of displays for the museum opening. British Sailors’ Society.—The Christchurch Ladles' Guild of the British Sailors’ Society held Its annual bring-and-buy and coin party at the Trinity Hall recently. A sales table did brisk business. Members and friends were entertained by films of the British Sailors’ Institute and their activities in England.

Captain John Elder and Mrs Elder will return to New Zealand on Monday after spending three years at Cambridge University. They will stay with Mrs Elder’s parents, Mr and Mrs S. G. Robinson. 622 Worcester street, Christchurch.
