WHITE ELEPHANT LANDMARK.-The five 115ft wheat silos built at Waimate at the end of the First World War form a prominent landmark, being visible from ships approaching Timaru. For the last 30 years their only use has been to house a colony of pigeons. Earlier ventures to use them to store wheat were completely unsuccessful.
