Early English Water Colours
Sir, —The council of the Canterbury Society of Arts is indebted to the Dunedin Public Art Gallery Society for allowing a selection of their wonderful collection of early English water colour drawings to be shown in Christchurch. This fascinating exhibition is now on view in the Durham Street Art Gallery, and should be seen by every art lover. During the last 30 years the water-colourists of the eighteenth century have come once more into their own, and today their work is much sought after both by galleries and private collectors. We are indeed fortunate in being able to study the original works of many of the great names in early water-colour painting, and this opportunity should not be missed, as our own McDougall Gallery is sadly lacking in this respect.—Yours, etc., HEATHCOTE G. HELMORE. November 19, 1958.
