Exchange Control
Sir.—This case is surely “the limit.” I refer to the Wellington businessman refused the right to “shout” his sister a trip from Australia to New Zealand. Surely our officials and their employers (the politicians) are getting more and more arbitrary in tax collection and control of private funds.
Cases "are coming up with an ever-increasing frequency that demonstrate that the Labour Party adheres to its precept that it can spend your money far more wisely than you can yourself. Surely a decent, kindly and generous act such as this would have prompted in the official breast a more liberal interpretation of the sacrosanct regulations. Little wonder that New Zealand is acquiring the reputation of being a poverty-stricken and parsimonious place.—Yours, etc., ARE WE ALL DUMBBELLS? November 19, 1958.
