Corporation’s damaged Viscount lis back in the air by Christmas/ ‘a replacement aircraft —probably a J Viscount or DC-6—is likely to bo • used by the corporation over the .busy holiday period. Announcing this in Auckland today, the general manager of the (corporation <Mr J. .1. Busch 1 said (the* aircraft would probably be chartered from a jNorthorn Horn-; i isphere airline. i If a DC-6 was obtained, servicing would be done by T;ism;m Empire Airwavs. which Hies three DC-6 s. , TEAL, had been approached in the corporation's search for a replacement, said Mr Busch, but t the fad that the holiday period is [also T.E.A.L.’s busy time precluded a charter from that airline. The same was the case with Australian airlines. Mr Busch said he hopes to be able to announce a charter arrangement late this week or earl> next week. A DC-3 was out of the question A replacement had ’<:• be much taster and have much greater seating capacity. Welded Tracks.— The ‘‘clickety cluck" is being taken out of the railway line from York to lhe north where the old tracks are being replaced by new 300ft-bmg welded rails. A rail-laying unit performing the work is nearly [a mile long and is made up of Waggons. diesel locomotives. , ballast trucks and machinery. , About a mile of long welded rails 1 can be laid in one continuous 1 operation.—London, November 17. 1
