Hostel For Nelson Girls’ College
(.Veu> Zealand Press Association) j WELLINGTON. November 18. The Minister of Education <Mr Skoglund) announced today that; tenders are being called for a new hostel at the Nelson Girls’: College. “Because of the great lire risk. 1 would have closed the Nelson Girls’ College hostel down rather than subject the children who occupy it to danger.” said Mr Skoglund. The present building had been in use fur over 70 years and its replacement was an urgent matter. Mr Skoglund said there wore calls from many places for modern school hostel accommodation. His personal view on hostel modernisation was that the uneconomic building should be made economic before more money was spent on hostels that were in good order and paying their way. Under the agreement made, the Government .would finance the new hostel and, the Nelson College Council would contribute £14,000 towards its ' cost.
