U.S. GENERAL’S MEMOIRS
Britain’s Part In Korea Criticised (N.Z Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, November 17. General Albert Wedemeyer American Army planner in Europe, and commander in Asia during World War 11, said today he did not think Britain had done its share during the war in Korea. General Wedemeyer said this at a news conference on the publication day of his memoirs. “Wedemeyer Reports.” “All allies must be dealt with by a policy of enlightened firmness. If we give the Britisn something, we expect something in return. All relations with allies should be on a reciprocal basis.” he said.
But he said he thought Britain had done well in the Middle East, and commented: “I was not proud of the role of the United States played at Suez . . . but I was not a military man then, and that is only an individual opinion.” He said he wished to emphasise that there was “nothing personal” in his criticism of any of the allied war leaders, except the Russians, who “exhibited downright chicanery.”
