ATTACK MADE ON WIFE
Husband Fined £lO (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. A mother of three children alleged before Mr W. H. Carson, S.M., in the Magistrates Court at Wellington today that her husband had dragged her backwards across their front yard, gouged deep scratches in her neck and left shoulder, causing a swelling blood bruise over one eye, kicked her in the groin as she lay on the floor and twisted her leg causing another bruise. The husband, Francis Hubert Quinn, aged 41, taxi driver, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife, Alma Mary Quinn. He was represented by Mr G. C. Kent. He said she was drunk and that he had to restrain her. They were living apart and he had gone to see her regarding the care of the children. The Magistrate said it was not easy to see where the truth lay. It was hard to believe a person of her physique and state of health would have attacked a strong man such as her husband. If she had done this he could have easily restrained her without causing the injuries found by medical examination. The Court was prepared, however, to accept that Quinn was under stress at the time.
Quinn was convicted and fined £lO. with costs £1 10s.
