FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A weak trough of low pressure lies northwest and south-east over the North Island, and a weak ridge of high pressure extends from the central Tasman Sea towards the north-west parts of the South Island: a strong westerly airstream covers the south Tasman Sea. Forecast:— Westland and Buller: Moderate winds, mainly southwesterlies; variable skies; scattered showers and moderate temperatures. Outlook: scattered showers. Nelson and Marlborough: Light or moderate variable winds; partly cloudy to cloudy skies; scattered showers, especially about the ranges; moderate to mild temperatures. Outlook: mainly fair. Canterbury: Light or moderate winds, north-easterlies predominating on the coast and variable winds inland; some morning fog or low cloud areas, chiefly on the coast, otherwise mainly fair, with moderate to mild day temperatures.
