Cricket RETURN TO FOURDAY MATCHES
Plunket Shield . Suggestion
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 25. A plea for a return to four-day Plunket Shield matches and fewer teams in the competition was made by Mr W R. Fee, the president of the Auckland Cricket Association at its annua] meeting tonight. “Batsmen- have deteriorated since the four-day game was eliminated,” he said “Games are hustled through, and players are not allowed to concentrate as they used to.” Mr Fee said that because matches were generally near a result in two days, the. public interest was lost and gates suffered accordingly. If cricket Was to progress, the move by South Island associations to reduce the number of teams in Plunket Shield cricket should be followed up, supported, and eventually implemented.
