Post Office Staff Retirements

Two officers of the Chief Post Office staff will retire on September 30—Mr J. F. Butler, who has been on the custodian’s staff for several years, and Mr J. G. C. Davie, senior telegraphist. Mr Davie commenced as a message boy at Dunedin on May 1, 1916. In July, 1918, after qualifying as a telegraph cadet at the morse training school, Oamaru, he was aopointed cadet, Balclutha. From there he went to Wanaka for a short period before going to Dunedin. Early in 1923 he was transferred to Christchurch, and in April, 1931 to Napier. After two years he was transferred to Wellington. and six months later back to Christchurch where on April 1, 1954 he was promoted to senior telegraphist.
