Brighter View In Europe

(Rec. 9.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 26 General Lauris Noratad, commander of the N.A.T.O. forces, said last night that the chance of war in Europe had diminished. “In fact, it is difficult for me to imagine a military situation along the N.A.T.O. line from which aggression could possibly expect a clear profit,” he told the National Security Industrial Association.

“But that is not the same as saying that the threat itself has vanished. “The threat is only in abeyance, and it is in abeyance only because' our strength in peace, while not complete, is much too formidable to be challenged at a cost acceptable to an aggressor.”
