NATIONAL PARTY DIVISION
New Secretary Appointed Mr A. C. R. Elderton, a retired British Army officer, has been appointed secretary of the Can-terbury-Westland division of the National Party, replacing Mr C. F. Hester, who has been transferred to Wellington as assistant secretary of the party at its Dominion headquarters. Mr Elderton joined the British Army in 1926 and 10 years later transferred to the Indian Army, s ving with it until it was disbanded in 1948 on the partition of India. He then held the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He transferred to the R.A.F. Regiment, a d served with it from 1948 to 1954 with the rank of wing commander, then joining the Civil Defence corps under the Ministry of Supply for three years up to 1957, when he came to New Zealand and settled in Christchurch. The executive of the party last said farewell to Mr Hester and welcomed the new secretary, who will take up his duties at the beginning of October.
