Mrs Neta Neale will leave by air today tor Hamilton, where she will be guest producer for the Hamilton Repertory Society’s next major production. Honorary life membership was conferred on Miss J. Holderness and Mrs I. T. Woolf, at the annual meeting of the Y.W.C.A. last evening. Both had been senior vice-presidents of the board of directors for many years. Opew* Fast Pupil*.—Mr N. Wood was master of ceremonies at the annual social and dance held recently at Staretta Hall by the Opawa School Past Pupils’ Association. Mr Waters’ band played for dancing and vocal and novelty items were given by Mrs A. Shields. Mrs N. Wood, Miss M. Courtney and Mr L. de John. Mr J. Mclntyre (secretary) spoke on the various social activities organised for young people in the district and urged support for the weekly table tennis evenings at the school Committee members responsible for the catering were: Misses Johnstone and Mildren and Mrs Overend. /
English Speaking Unlom—Wh/n the Canterbury branch of the English Speaking Union of the Commonwealth met recently the president (Mr S. Gill) and Mrs Gill received members and friends. The Director of the Canterbury museum (Dr. Roger Duff) gave an illustrated address on the 1957 and 1958 excavations of the Moa Bone Point Cave. Redcliffs. against the background of the pioneer excavations in* 1872. Musical Evening.—A musical evening for the member* and friends of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society was held recently at the home ot Mrs A. W. Scott, Fendalton. Songs and pianoforte solos from the works of Brahms and Faure were presented, as well as selections from Eastern and Western European, pastoral tnusic Mrs Edna Boyd-Wilson and Mr Ernest. Jenner were among the performers.
