CUSTOMS TARIFF CHANGES

Metallic Elements And Condensers (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 25. Orders-in-Councll gazetted tonight provide for the rearrangement of the customs tariff items for metallic elements and powerfactor correction condensers. The Minister of Customs (Mr Boord) said that the effect of the orders was to reduce the rates of import duty on_some raw materials used by New Zealand industries. In the case of the order dealing with metallic elements, certain dry colours previously subject to primage duty of 3 per cent, will now be classified as dry colours and will be free of duty from all sources. All power-factor correction condensers are now to be admitted into New Zealand free of duty under the British preferential tariff. Previously those with a kilovolt-ampere reactive rating not exceeding 15 were subject to a duty of 15 per cent. There are also corresponding reductions in the rates of duty on power-factor correction condensers imported, from foreign sources. - Junior Chamber Convention.—* A party of 53 members of the Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commerce, and their wives left

Christchurch yesterday to attend the 15th national convention of the New Zealand Junior Chamber of Commerce which is being held in Dunedin.
