RENTAL MOPEDS IN CITY
Six More Licences Approved The operation of six new rantal mopeds in Christchurch vn authorised by the Number Licensing Authority (Mr J. A. Bretherton) yesterday. There are now 12 rental mopeds available in the city. Thomas Richard McCleary, trading as McCleary Motors, a?: plied for permission to operate 10 rental mopeds. He was represented by Mr D. H. Stringer. Mr J. S. Haywood, for Gainsborough U-Drive Rentals, said that his client considered the granting of 10 rental moped licences too many. McCleary said he had considerable demand from visitors to the city and commercial travellers, who had enjoyed the facility in other centres, and from person, whose machines were in for repair, for the hire of mopeds. “Ten would be too many and at present it is not possible to assess the demand. I will grant six and you can apply again if you find the demand sufficient to warrant an increase,” said the authority. Application Refused Reginald Clarence Griffin and Trevor Edward Thomas Griffin, trading as Griffin Brothers, were refused an application to transfer the domicile of their continuous goods service licence from Christchurch to Barry’s Bay, Mr R. B. Shand appeared for the applicants. Mr R. A. Young opposed the application for Cooke’s Freight, Ltd., W. A. Habgood, Ltd., and Bays Transport, Ltd.
