PROGRAMME FRAMING

Recommendations Of Executive The following report of a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, held in Christchurch on September 5, has been released :

Instances of clubs racing on the same day with horses from the same pool and not co-operating in the framing of their programmes had come before the executive for its consideration. It was decided that a letter should be sent to all clubs saying that if trotting was to prosper it was vital that such clubs should get together and set their classes in such a way that there is as little clashing as possible. Failure to do this would be detrimental to the clubs affected and to the sport generally. Unqualified Entries A resolution passed by the delegates at the annual conference recommending to the executive that the handicapper be instructed to say. when declaring the handicaps, what horses, if any, were unqualified, was discussed.

The chairman reported that because of difficulties that had arisen in implementing the recommendation the emergency committee had discussed the matter with the Chief Stipendiary Steward and the Chief Handicapper and as a result recommended that a letter be sent to all clubs, urging them to frame conditions for maiden races so that only qualified horses are eligible for nomination. Mr Farrell Re-elected Mr J. E. Farrell, a member of the executive of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, who retired by rotation from the Totalisator Agency Board, was re-elected.

Filming of Races The president reported that the inquiries begun in February last at the Inter-Dominion Trotting Championships held in Adelaide on the filming of races were still being prosecuted, and that an endeavour was being made to collect films of races taken under the different technique* used in other part* of tho world for purposes of comparison. <
