Hydatids Control Schemes In N.Z.

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 23.

There are now about 300 voluntary hydatids control schemes throughout New Zealand and more are being organised, said Mr A. D. Laing, the newly appointed superintendent of hydatid control, in Auckland yesterday. He' was on his way to inspect North Auckland control schemes. In recent weeks he has examined control schemes in Otago, Horowhenua, Wairarapa and Taranaki.

T am most impressed by the way these voluntary schemes are educating those who control dogs.” Mr Laing said. ‘‘The farmer is leading the way.”

Research had shown that where control measures had been taken the incidence of hydatids worms had dropped to about 6 per cent., compared with 37 per cent, where no precautions had been taken, he said.
