COLOMBO TEA SALES
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) COLOMBO, September 23. With offerings totalling 6.0 m lb a less general demand was evident in this week’s Colombo tea auction, and quality generally on offer was inferior to last week’s. The market was quiet at the opening, but strengthened as the sale progressed. All high brown brokens came to an easier market with prices following quality. Medium brokens were 15 to 25 cents per lb easier, while lowgrown teas were fully firm. Persian Gulf and Middle East teas fetched firm to dearer prices. Quality fannings followed the trend of the respective brokens but were generally in better demand. Teas suitable for the Australian market declined by 12 to 16 cents per lb. South Africa and New Zealand were quiet, but all other centres operated freely. Quotations: — Highgrown broken orange pekoe, 300 cents per lb; good medium broken orange pekoe, 225; medium liquoring broken orange pekoe, 195; medium liquoring broken pekoe, 125; medium liquoring pekoe fannings, 240; medium liquoring orange pekoe, 180; low medium broken orange pekoe, 172; low medium pekoe fannings, 220: low medium dust, 165; low medium orange pekoe, 153; low medium pekoe, 160.
