RECOGNITION OF SERVICE

Holland Lectures Proposed (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 23. In addition to the recent presentations to Sir Sidney Holland, the National Party has decided to inaugurate an annual lecture as a further acknowledgment of his outstanding public services. In an announcement to this effect, made today on behalf of the Dominion Executive of the party, it was stated that the lecture would be delivered each year by a recognised authority on the subject chosen for the occasion. The subject would relate to some particular aspect of public affairs, human welfare, or economic activity and the lecturer would be entirely free to express his own views thereon. The president of the party (Mr A. McKenzie) said they were grateful to Sir Sidney Holland for his ready acquiescence in the proposal to acknowledge his services in this way and he was sure well-wishers would approve of the decision. The lecture would be on the lines of other well-established lecturers on topics of interest and importance, such as the Rutherford memorial lecture by Sir Charles Darwin at Nelson last It was hoped and intended that the Holland lectures would make a useful contribution to public thought.
