Golf N.Z. TASMAN CUP TEAM RETURNS
Miss Campbell’s Play Praised (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 23. The long driving of the 18-year-old ’New Zealand golfer. Miss Nicki Campbell, amazed Australians during the recent Australian championships, said Mrs V. S. Land, manager of the New Zealand Tasman Cup team, which arrived back in Auckland today in the Monowai.
“One of her drives at Royal Melbourne was 263 yards, and she was always at least 20 yards ahead of her opponents,” said Mrs Land. Miss Campbell had surprised experienced golfers by reaching the Australian final. “The New Zealand team took a long time to get used to the fast Melbourne greens,” said Mrs Land “It was this weakness on and around the greens that caused the team to lose every match in the Tasman Cup contest.” The other members of the New Zealand team were Miss Susan Grigg, the present New Zealand champion, Miss U. Wickham, Mrs B. G. Middleton, and Miss Pam Bull.
