CURRENT NOTES
High School Old Girl* Association.—Members of the Christchurch High School Old Girls’ Association were entertained recently by Miss E. Fairbairn. A former teacher of the school, Miss Fairbairn showed slides and gave a talk on her recent visit to Brazil, where she was a representative of the New Zealand Geographical Society at a world conference of geographers. The president of the association (Miss I. F. Milnes) welcomed guests and thanked the speaker. Club.—“The Gold Star Mother’s Club is an association formfed entirely of mothers who have lost their sons in either world war. Their aim is to give comfort and cheer to each other by a monthly gathering at which new members are always welcome,” said Mrs V. Scott, who presided at the monthly meeting recently.
Scenic Drive,— The last opportunity for meeting other delegates attending the annual council meeting of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen's Guilds, came yesterday morning when a scenic drive was arranged. Members filled four buses which took them round the Summit road and to other parts of Christchurch. Red Cross,— Arrangements to entertain Rannerdale Home inmates in October with a scenic drive and afternoon tea at the Mount Pleasant Community Centre were completed at the September meeting of the Red-diffs-Mount Pleasant sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Mrs W.Tisch presided. Knitted gloves and socks for the elderly sick and clothing for children were handed in. To aid local Red Cross funds it was decided to hold cake and cooked food stalls in Redclifis late in October. Members were thanked for supplying flowers and for help with teas at the recent Red Cross Dominion conference.
