EASY WIN FOR LORD
Young Idealist Second (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, September 7. The New Zealand-bred Lord proved himself Victoria’s outstanding horse when he scored a very convincing win in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield yesterday. Starting at 11-8 on. Lord raced away from his opposition in the straight and won comfortably in lmin 51 2-ssec, 2sec -outside the course record. Lord beat the New Zealand-owned Young Idealist by two lengths and a half, with Lord Gavin a head away third. Young Idealist has been backed for a fortune for the Epsom Handicap, but it was not until after yesterday’s race that Godby and the owner, Mr R. Dailey, said he would contest the Randwick mile. Young Idealist was cut about in the Liston Stakes at Flemington a fortnight ago when he was also runner-up to Lord. “I have not been able to work him as solidly as I would have liked, and he Was a little hit underdone for today’s event.” Godby said ”I’ll now take him across to run in the Epsom, and will decide about the Caulfield Cup after that race,” he said.
