North Wins Men’s Events
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 31.. Honours were even when the interisland table tennis matches were played at Wellington yesterday. North Island won the men s competition by 9-3 while South won the women's events by the same margin. Results, North Island names first, were:—G. A. J. Frew beat R. L. Foster. 21-18, 10-21, 21-10; beat J. Arm-' strong, 21-11, 23-21; M. L. Dunn beat D. Armstrong, 21-19, 21-15, beat R. L. Foster 21-11, 21-7; R. V. Jackson beat D. W. T. Scott, 21-17, 21-19, lost to B. A. Foster, 13-21, 15-21; A. R. Tomlinson lost to B. A. Foster, 17- 21-11, 17-21. Men’s Doubles.—Frew and Dunn beat Foster and Foster, 19-21, 21-13, 21-16, beat D. Scott and Armstrong, 21-16, 21-17; Jackson and Tomlinson lost to Scott and Armstrong, 21-17, 19-21, 15-21; beat Foster and Foster, 21-15, 21-23, 21-16. Women’s Singles.—Miss J. Brown lost to Mrs J. Magorian, 13-21, 22-20, 19-11; lost to Mrs P. • M. Purdon, 18- 17-21; Mrs V. Darroch lost to Mrs Purdon, 20-22, 16-21; lost to Mrs Magorian, 15-21, 15-21; Miss V. M. Rolston lost to Mrs J. Shadbolt, 17-21, 13-21, lost to Miss F. Inglis. 12-21, 15-21; Miss N. Davis lost to Miss Inglis, 15-21, 21-18, 19-21; beat Mrs Shadbolt, 23-21, 21-17.
Women's Doubles.—Miss Brown and Mrs Darroch lost to Mrs Shadbolt and Miss Inglis, 16-21, 21-23; beat Mesdames Purdon and Magorian, 11-21, 21-15, 21-18; Misses Rolston and Davis lost to Mesdames Purdon and Magorian, 10-21, 11-21; beat Mrs Shadbolt and Miss Inglis, 19-21, 21-7, 22-20.
