The Biccarton-trained Ally, Ruve, winner of the Eiffelton Hack Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday, will be railed back to Sockburn from Ashburton today. Ruve is transported by rail in an open waggon because she becomes, unsettled in floats, and because of that much of ■ her racing will be restricted to Riccarton.
However, she will be railed back to Ashburton at the end of next week for the second day of the Ashburton club’s spring meeting. She was not nominated for the John Grigg Stakes, but will run in the Methven Hack Handicap.’ one mile. She ran out seven furlongs very strongly on Saturday and if she holds her form she'mi'ght well win again. Ruve is a sister to Sarcelle. winner of the Great Easter Handicap and the Desert Gold Stakes last season.
Oven Fire. The Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out to a fire in an electric oven at 6.40 p.m. on Saturday at a house in Coleridge terrace, occupied by Mr J. Collins. No damage resulted.
