Great Seal’s Win

After rain early in the day, the weather cleared for the first day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting on Saturday, but the track was soft and cutting out. One of three surprise winners on the day, Great Seal, fought back too well for the favourite. Golden Luca, in the Marangai Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Marlyn, one of four locally-trained winners at the meeting, ran right away from his opponents in the final stages of the second leg, the Flying Handicap, and the double paid £377 12s 6d for £l. The totalisator on-course handled £59,224 10s, compared with £63,015 IQs on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £3791.
