Sir,—lnstead of borrowing from the World Bank and still tying ourselves to dollar interest, why not start a large central sterling bank. This would include Britain and the whole of the worldwide British dependencies, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, etc. This would keep the money borrowed within the sterling area.—Yours, ietc., IF NOT WHY NOT? August 8,. 1958. [Principally because we have not enough money to back such a venture, though something may be done with American help.—Ed., “The Press.”]
