GAS-POWER MERGER
Announcement Of Policy Soon (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 10. Government policy on the coordination of the gas and electric power industries would be announced very shortly, the Minister of State Electricity (Mr Watt) said to-night. He said he had a Government caucus committee report on the 1956 co-ordinating legislation and was hopeful of bringing down amending legislation this session. It was obvious, he said, that the legislation had not been successful, and amendments would have to be made so as to maintain the gas industry. The gas co-ordination committee and the gas and electric power industries would be consulted before Government policy was announced.
