SPECIALISTS’ FEES

B.M.A. Scheme Ready

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 10.

The New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association has a plan for the payment of specialist, consultant and other services as part of the social security scheme, but it has not been presented to the Government yet, said an Auckland spokesman for the association. He said it was thought that the plan, which incorporated a suggestion that the patients of specialists should be Subsidised by the Government, would be a workable basis on which the Government could formulate a scheme.

When asked to comment on the proposal in Wellington, the Minister of Health (Mr Mason) said: “I haven’t heard of it so far. It would be quite a shock to think that the B.M.A. had moved with such celerity.”
