Oranje For Australian Run
Hundreds of New Zealand returned soldiers who served in the Middle East well remember the Dutph liner Oranje which will extend her regular service to Australia in November. At present the service is between Amsterdam and Jakarta. The 20.000-ton Oranje was one of the hospital ships which brought wounded servicemen from the Middle Fast during the Second ■World War From IMI to 1946, she .J 1 voyages carrying 32.461 pauenta, mainly Australian and New
Zealand sick and wounded, and steamed a total of 382,260 miles. On the voyage to Amsterdam, the Oranje will' call at Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle, Jakarta, Singapore, Colombo, Port Said, Genoa and Southampton. A luxury liner, she has spacious air-conditioned public rooms and cabins, veranda cafes, a swimming pool, cinema and gymnasium. There is also a nursery deck and playroom. Her 825 passengers are accommodated in first and tourist-class single, double, threeberth and four-berth cabins.
