South Canterbury t Beaten Although the Canterbury representative indoor bowling .team’s fourth defence of the A. S. Patterson Cui ended successfully, the challenger, ' South Canterbury, looked as though it might be successful until the later stages of the second round, when Canterbury took the advantage. , With points almost even after the first round. South Canterbury won both the opening rinks to take a lead in points, but Canterbury had a succession of wins in the pairs and singles to clinch its win by 20J points to 7J. with a 245 to 181 aggregate. Results of games (Canterbury names first) were.—Rinks: Williamson drew with Quartermain, 8 all; Fridd beat Gibson. 9-5. Singles: Gee beat Mclsaac, 6-4; Buckley lost to Chisnell 11-5; Ward beat Churcher 13-4; Fridd beat Gibson 9-7; Williamson lost to Quartermain 9-5; Penny drew with King 5 all; Taylor beat McPherson 9-4; Hoyle beat Miller 9-7. Pairs: Penny and Talyor beat King and McPherson 10-4; Williamson and Hoyle lost to Quartermain and Miller 12-2; Ward and Gee beat Churcher and Mclsaac 18-13; Fridd and Buckley drew with Chisnell and Gibson 10 all. Second round. Rinks: Williamson lost to Gibson 10-9; Fridd lost to Quartermain 9-7. Pairs: Ward beat King 10-6; Fridd beat Quartermain 14-3; Penny beat Churcher 7-3; Williamson beat Gibson 11-5. Singles: Gee beat McPherson 12-1; Buckley beat Miller 7-4; Ward beat King 12-7; Fridd beat Quartermain 14-2; Taylor beat Mclsaac 7-5; Hoyle lost to Chisnell 15-6; Penny beat Churcher 7-5; Williamson beat Gibson 9-8.
