Apple Pie Impresses

Apple Pie, an Australian-bred filly by Newtown Wonder from Silver Words, attracted much interest in a parade lor two-year-old fillies at Riccarton on Saturday. She was second in a short sprint in the straight, finishing half a length behind a brown filly by Sabaean from Traviata owned by Mr W. A. Grant, of Fairlie, and trained at Washdyke by M. R. Jones. Apple Pie was bought at auction for 2300gns by Mr Duncan McFarlane, of Christchurch, in Sydney in the autumn, and she is being prepared for a racing career by A. E. Didham, of Wingatui. Third to finish was Amazing, a brown fillv by Pictavia from Treaty in C. C. McCarthy’s Riccarton stable. She is owned by Mrs M. H. Kirby. Fourth was Aubade. a brown filly bv Castle Donnin»ton from Koa Manu owned by Miss J E and L. W. Storry and trained at Riccarton by D. J. O’Connor.

N.Z. JOCKEY INJURED

Duiieu Thrown From Mount

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. August 10 Garry Duiieu, the New Zealand jockey, was thrown from his mount. Roughway, in the Arkaringa Hurdles at Caulfield yesterday. He was found to have a probable fracture of *he collarbone. He was suffering from concussion when admitted.

Duiieu, who won the Australian Hurdles last week on Red Pampas, was reported to have chosen tn have ridden Rouphway rather than the outsider. Radiant Path, which started at 50 to 1 but won comfortably after running in second place until the last jump. D-’lieu’s mishap cost him the mount on McKe n na in the Australian Steeplechase.

It was the first jumping success for Radiant Path, which passed the leader. French Master, by better in the final stages. The 7 to 4 favourite, Orford, finished a poor fourth.
