FIRE ABOARD TANKER

Good Save Made By Crew ROTTERDAM, August 10. The Dirkzwager Shipping Agency reported in Rotterdam last night that the Swedish tanker, Oktavius (10,646 tons) had radioed that she was afire in the Atlantic, 1000 miles southwest of the Azores, said the American Associated Press. The Dutch tug, Oostzee, was speeding to the area and had been reported only 100 miles from the ship. Later it was reported that a second attempt to get in touch with the ship by radio had failed. Reuter later reported that the fire aboard the Oktavius had been brought under control by the crew and that the ship was being towed to the nearest harbour in the Azores, about 900 miles north-east of her position. The crew of 40 was safe.
