COLLISION AT NEWPORT
Tanker Blaze Continues NEWPORT August 8 The Graham, one of the two tankers which collided and caught fire at the entrance to Newport harbour yesterday morning, was still blazing early today, belching clouds of oily, black smoke. The smoke from the 1500-ton motor tanker was a nuisance to the .summer resort area around Newport. Coast Guard officers predicted that the fire would last for at least, five days unless the ship could be torpedoed and sunk. Fifteen of the crew died, one is missing and 25 others are in hospital after the collision, which occurred in dense fog. The dead were all members of the crew of the second tanker, the 10.340-ton Gulfoil. Among them were Captain Montreville Eden and his second officer, Raymond Day, both of Texas.
