YOUNG FARMERS’ DEBATE

The Avon Young Farmers’ Club defeated the Waihora club in the district final of the senior debating competition held at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. Mr K. Yates (Avon) was judged the best speaker of the evening. The subject was “That the policy of imperial preference should be rigorously applied.” The Avon club, comprising Messrs P. R. W. Ellis. P. White, and K. Yates, had the affirmative case, and the Waihora club (Messrs S. C. Miller, D. H. Watson and B. Miller) the negative. Avon won by 265 points to 246.

Mr Gordon Lyall judged the competition and Mr P. G. Morrison, of the ■ Sheffield club, was chairman.
