Scottish Women's Golf Title
Two members of the British junior women’s golf team which played in New Zealand three years ago contested the recent final of the Scottish championship, at Elie. Miss Dorothea Sommerville beat Miss Jeanette Robertson on the thirty-sixth green. In the morning Miss Sommerville started beautifully, and her
37 out left her four up, Miss Robertson having failed to hole a putt of a significant length. They began to drop on the homeward half, but she was still three down after 18 holes. Miss Robertson was out in 36 to Miss Sommerville’s 37 in the afternoon, to reduce her leeway by one hole and Miss Robertson holed a putt of 15 feet for a win at the tenth, then squared the: match at the short eleventh,; where Miss Sommerville had the; misfortune to have her pitch; spoiled by. a spectator. Miss; Robertson led for the first time at' the thirteenth, where her oppon-! ent three-putted, but it was square! again with three to go. Miss] Robertson won the sixteenth and] lost the seventeenth. And it was] her putting which, in the end, cost; her the match. Both players were; safely on for two at the last hole,; and from 45 feet out Miss Robert-; son putted about 30 inches beyond < the hole. Miss Sommerville’s ap-; proach putt of 25 feet finished dead. Miss Robertson missed the little putt to end what was described as one of the best finals in the event.
