Women's Hockey
Lack of basic skills is the main deterrent to good women’s hockey in New Zealand at present. according to Miss E. Brandwick, the English women’s hockey coach in Wellington. Miss Brandwick. who is a physical education teacher, said that coaching on finer points of the game er positional play would be little help to hockey until the basic skills were mastered.
Unless concentrated efforts by coaches were made to induce players to cultivate the fundamental skills, such as clean hitting. stopping confidently and passing accurately, the present standard of hockey would not improve, she said.
