Starting Cold Cars

Sir, —Is it old-fashioned or technically irrelevant to suggest that people might have less trouble with car batteries in cold weather if they turned the engine over a few times by hand before using the self-starter? But perhaps modern machines are so efficient that the provision of a starting handle is considered superfluous. —Yours, etc., M.T. July 2, 1958.
