Sterner Measures Urged (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 3. Remits passed at the concluding session last night of the Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers conference included: “That we deplore the acts of vandalism and intimidation of people by unruly gangs of delinquents and, in the interests of public safety, urge the Government to impose sterner penalties for such offences when they come before the Courts.” “That the Government be requested that magistrates be required to ask women Justices of the Peace to sit on the Bench when women and juveniles were being tried.” “That the Government be asked that no broadcast featuring crimes committed in New Zealand since 190° be allowed on programmes.” “That in respect of double feature cinema programmes a stricter censorship be used and that both pictures be in the same letter category.” Officers Elected . The following officers were reelected:—Dominion president, Mrs R. D. Eastwood (Te Aroha); treasurer, Mrs; A. C Stevenson (Rotorua); North Island vicepresidents, Mesdames M. E. Irwin (Papakura), J. K. Lees (Taranaki), and F. Lowes (Cetral Hawke’s Bay); South Island vicepresidents, Mesdames A. Harper (Christchurch), M. C. Milne (Methven), and T. M. Watson (Otautau, Southland). Dominion Council: North Island members, Mesdames A. F. Escott (Tuakau), D. I. Finch (Ormondville), and P. H. Shepherd (Whangarei); South Island council, Mesdames A. Brown (Southland), G. M. Charles, L. and K. Wilson (Westport); finance committee, Mesdames L. Currie (Mangaroa), R. W. Jenkins (Otaki), D. S. Milne (Lower Hutt), V. H. Thwaites (Welling ton), C. R. Wilson (Wellington), and R. S. Yorath (Upper Hutt).
