Fined For Careless Driving

(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, July 3. A Wellington member of the Road Safety Council, Aidan Maurice Reidy, was fined by Mr H. J. Thompson, S.M., in the Blenheim Magistrate's Court yesterday for driving through the main street of Blenheim without due care and attention. Reidy, a commercial traveller, was charged with driving at a dangerous speed, but the Magistrate, after hearing evidence, reduced the charge. The penalty for driving at a dangerous speed would be out of proportion under the circumstances, he said. Reidy had travelled at excessive speed through Market street at night and had narrowly avoided colliding with another car, said a traffic officer in evidence.
