FREYBERG ROSE BOWL
Tournament Rules Amended (New Zeaidna Press Association) WELLINGTON. Juna 20. The 1959 Freyberg Rose Bowl golf tournament will be held at Rotorua on April 16. 17 and 18, the council of the New Zealand Golf Association decided todayThe residential qualification for teams competing in the tournament was amended to read: “The team shall consist of six amateur golfen each of whom shall be a member of a registered club. The members are eligible to represent only district associations in whose area they have resided for a period of not less than two months immediately prior to the start of the tournament." The council decided that, to avoid difficulties which have arisen in the past, only players who had resided in a district for two months before the tournament would be eligible tq play for that district in the Freyberg Rose Bowl competition. New Zealand’s six-man team at the Commonwealth, tournament in South Africa from November 3 to 7 next year will stay in South Africa for a fortnight after the tournament with expenses paid by the host country. The council today accepted an invitation from South Africa for the team to play in other towns after the tournament at Johannesburg. Because the meeting felt the players would like to take a few days to become acclimatised, it was decided that the team should arrive in South Africa about October 27. The council decided to call for nominations for the 1959 North Island and South Island championships. The Marlborough Golf Club has already applied for the South Island tournament as Marlborough celebrates its centennial next year.
