The New Zealander, Bob Charles, with a 761 was four strokes behind the leader, Reid Jack, of Scotland, at the end of the first round of the English amateur stroke play golf championship for the Brabazon Trophy over the Royal Birkdale course yesterday. The round was played in torrential rain, which flooded the fairways and greens and almost brought plav to a standstill.
